Why it matters

Treat green infrastructure like the asset it is

A green wall isn't a garden bed stood on its end. A green roof isn't a backyard with a view. But most irrigation tech treats them like they are.

The technology keeping plants alive was mostly built for agriculture or backyard gardens, then adapted upward – onto facades, into atriums, across rooftops thirty storeys up. Living infrastructure doesn't behave like a field: water moves differently down a wall, and a wicking planter on a high floor shares almost nothing with a row crop except the plant in it.

Cloud Grow was built for these spaces specifically – shaped around what living infrastructure actually needs. Every zone watched live, so you choose when to visit, and problems surface before they show at the leaf.

Our cities are getting greener every year. What keeps it all alive should be built for the job, not borrowed from another one.

In their words

“This technology lets us push the boundaries of what's possible. It puts GreenAir in the driver's seat.”
Simon Chamberlain — Director, GreenAir
Majestic Centre, Wellington · Large Installation of the Year · IPA 2025

“Cloud Grow turns the hidden moisture patterns in our wicking baskets into data we use to set maintenance and refill schedules, so we only visit when it is needed.”

Ben Perry — Director, Future Village

“We go away and know the garden is in good hands. No instructions for the neighbours, no worrying about the weather – it just looks after itself.”

The challenge

A timer can only do so much

Substrates and planting have advanced enormously. The way we water living infrastructure hasn't – most walls, roofs and gardens still run on a timer set for the worst case. On a 40°C day it isn't enough; the morning after rain, the timer runs anyway.

A rain sensor only knows that it's raining – not whether the soil around the roots is actually wet. A passing shower can trip it and hold off watering while the root zone stays dry.

The platform

Watering driven by what the plants need

Cloud Grow reads the plants' needs – moisture, temperature and conductivity right in the root zone, plus the weather overhead – and waters each zone only when it needs it, holding off when rain is on the way. Everything that drives those decisions is visible on the Cloud Grow Platform – Castellatus – so you can see how every site is tracking without being on it.

Castellatus turns live readings into clear actions: which zone needs attention, what kind, and how urgent. A built-in safety layer prevents flooding from a stuck valve, and if connectivity drops, each unit keeps making watering decisions on its own.

Why Cloud Grow

Five reasons to choose Cloud Grow

Know before your plants do

Know before your plants do

Moisture, temperature and conductivity tracked live in the root zone, with a real-time alert the moment something moves out of range. Fewer plants lost, fewer call-outs.

What we look after

Built for living infrastructure, wherever it grows

Living walls, green roofs, wicking gardens, parks, botanic collections – if it's an intentional planting, our technology can automate its water and watch its health. A few of the places it's working today:

Vertical gardens & green walls

Even moisture from top to bottom, no schedule to adjust – up to 59% less water than a timer, measured on our green walls.

Wicking planters & baskets

See reservoir levels and substrate conditions from anywhere. Visit when a site needs it, not on a rotation – monitor only, or fully automate.

Green roofs

Needs-driven irrigation that reads the weather and lets the rain do the work – up to 82% less water on our green-roof installation, and a roof that works harder as a stormwater sponge.

Parks & botanic gardens

Diverse plantings across large, public sites – from botanic collections to parkland – on the same needs-based irrigation and live monitoring.

The product suite

Purpose-built for your green assets

The NimbusVerde controller, wireless NimbusNodes, and substrate and water-level sensors – all reporting to the Cloud Grow Platform, Castellatus. Each part has one job; together they give you control over every zone on site.

Castellatus
The cloud platform – live dashboard, real-time alerts, weekly reports, and pattern detection that catches a change early.
NimbusVerde
The controller, one per site. Connects over mobile (no site Wi-Fi), meters water, and keeps deciding even offline.
NimbusNode
Zone controller for multi-wall and multi-planter sites – reads its own sensors and drives its own valve, wirelessly.
Substrate Sensors with EC
Moisture, temperature and conductivity at root level.
Water Level Sensor
Continuous reservoir tracking, so refills fit your workload.
NimbusVerde Controller
Real-time moisture
Substrate moisture monitoring per zone – know conditions before your plants show stress.
Precision irrigation
Flow-measured water delivery with automated scheduling and zone-level control.
Environmental sensing
Temperature, humidity and conductivity (EC) tracked alongside moisture, for the full root-zone picture.
Cellular connectivity
No site WiFi required. Built-in cellular streams data from any location with mobile coverage.

How it works

From sensor to insight

Sensors in the substrate read moisture, temperature and conductivity live and feed the NimbusVerde controller, which drives the water supply and streams everything to the Cloud Grow Platform, Castellatus, for analysis, alerts and automated decisions.

Power options

Battery-powered for fully offline operation — keep them topped up however the site allows:

Try a scenario See how Cloud Grow responds — a timer vs watering to need, a hot day, rain coming, a tap left off.

A timer waters on schedule whatever the conditions — spiking and crashing through the optimal band. Cloud Grow waters to need, so substrate moisture holds steady inside it.

What the monitoring catches

A living wall usually fails silently – unnoticed until plants start dying. This owner knew within minutes, well before any damage was done.

When a tap was turned off at a customer's home, Cloud Grow caught it the same day – a "No Water Flow" alert reached the owner before a single plant was harmed. In all, Cloud Grow has saved that wall three times.

About Cloud Grow

Our roots run deep

Cloud Grow didn't start as a technology company. For more than ten years we've run our own green-infrastructure business – designing, building and maintaining living walls, roofs and gardens, and making our own products to do it properly. Automating irrigation was the one piece the industry still left to timers and guesswork, so we built a platform deserving of the rigours of green infrastructure – and opened it up to everyone who works with living assets.

Every tool we make carries deep domain knowledge – built by a team of engineers, horticultural scientists and designers who maintain living infrastructure themselves.
